Lookfar Builders performed a deep retrofit and upgrade of this mid-century Oakland Hills house to bring it firmly into the 21st century.
We enlarged and remodeled the bathroom into a fully-tiled oasis replete with custom details such as a curb-less shower, Japanese soaking tub, and a floating vanity and medicine cabinet made from old-growth Douglas Fir we salvaged from the floor joists of a century-old home on another of our Oakland projects.
The new kitchen, which we enlarged after removing the old masonry chimney from the house, graciously opens to the dining room with its bay views. The light in the late afternoon really makes the bamboo cabinets glow!
We did a full upgrade of all mechanical, electrical and plumbing utilities in the house. We removed the gas service and fully electrified the house, including installing a high-efficiency heat pump HVAC system, a heat pump water heater, and an induction cook-top in the kitchen.
We also performed a seismic retrofit to ensure the house remains securely attached to its foundation.
